📵 WAELs Cell Phone & Electronic Device Policy – Family Guide

Dear WAELs Families,

To ensure a safe and focused learning environment, we have set clear expectations around student use of cell phones and electronic devices. Please review the following policy and discuss it with your child.

🚫 What’s NOT Allowed During the School Day

Devices must be off and in backpacks during:
- The entire school day
- While waiting for the bus
- After-school programs on school grounds
No devices in bathrooms, hallways, cafeteria, auditorium, or during recess
No photography, video, or audio recording
No use during tests, drills, or emergencies
No texting or calling during the school day

✅ When Are Devices Allowed?

Only with teacher permission for approved educational activities
Students with bus rides over 30 minutes may use portable music/game devices on the bus with driver permission

⚠️ If a Student Breaks the Rules

First Time: Device taken by staff, sent to principal, returned at end of day
Second Time: Device returned only to parent/guardian
Third Time: Device returned to parent, 1-month loss of privileges, possible further consequences

🛑 Important Reminder

WAELs is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged phones, smartwatches, or other devices. Students bring them at their own risk.
